Words of advice, encouragement, and wisdom to help you become a wiser, better, more confident musician.

Watch Your Mouth - and Your Mind!

If you want to succeed as a musician - any kind of musician, professional or amateur -- you've got to do one thing more than practice a lot. You've got to flood your mind with thoughts, images, and feelings of success!

That means, first, that you refuse to put yourself down - ever. And that goes for your music, your instrument, your technique, anything. Putdowns, criticisms, complaints, bemoanings, doubts, or discouragements ... none of these are going to motivate you, or bring you success, no matter what anyone else says. Instead, go through your day, affirming to yourself that you are a good, even great, musician. No matter how phony these thoughts may seem to you at first ... just do it. Our thoughts create our reality. Think thoughts of greatness - frequently - and you will achieve greatness.

Speak highly of yourself. Always. If you blew a lesson, rehearsal, practice session, or performance, too bad. Shrug it off, focus on all the things you did right in that situation, vow to correct whatever it is that may have caused the less-than-stellar outcome, and expect to do better next time.

In fact, ALWAYS expect the best to happen. Don't go into any performance or rehearsal expecting trouble or disaster. Your negative attitude will only help bring it about. Expect the worst to happen and that's most likely what you're going to get. Expect the best and THAT is most likely what you are going to get.

If you really want to achieve sussess, the best thing you can do is visualize it. Every day, take a few moments to picture yourself in your next performance or rehearsal situation doing an outstanding job. Picture it with as many vivid details as you can. The more you do this, the more frequently you are going to bring it about.

Keep your words, thoughts, expectations and visualizations 100% positive and you will be taking a huge step toward the greatness you deire and deserve!
